Confirmation

Confirmation at St. Martin’s is an opportunity for youth to learn more about the Bible, the life and ministry of Jesus, and Lutheran heritage. But primarily, it is a time for deeper exploration of what God has done for them in baptism.

They participate in Fall and Spring Confirmation Retreats, midweek Virtual Classroom, Sunday school, serve as acolytes during worship, and attend camp at Lutheran Camp Chrysalis during the summer. They also choose a Confirmation Verse and compose a Faith Statement at the end of their 8th grade year before Affirmation of Baptism on Pentecost Sunday.

CONFIRMATION RETREATS

One of the core values of the confirmation program at St.Martins is community! What better way to grow in faith and bond as a community as going to one of our local Lutheran camps in Texas! Camp chrysalis and Lutherhill Camp and Retreat center have rich histories and have strong impacts on young Faiths and people trying to get a feel of the greater Lutheran community when they step out of the doors of the church!

Sunday school meets at 10 am in room 148 downstairs.

Sunday school operates on a three year cycle so that each student learns about the Old Testament, New Testament, and Lutheran History. We utilize the Colaborate Lutheran Confirmation curriculum from Sparkhouse as a guide for teaching and discussion. Our primary focus is always addressing the issues that face these young teens, and the questions they have about God, faith, and life.

ACOLYTING

Acolyting is a chance for youth to begin to serve the congregation during worship. They light candles, help with the offering and communion, and even assist during special occasions like baptisms. Check out these how-to pages for more info:

SUMMER CAMP

AFFIRMATION OF BAPTISM

The Rite of Affirmation of Baptism occurs for confirmands at St. Martin’s every year during the 11:00 am service on Pentecost.

After completing St. Martin’s requirements for confirmation, youth may publicly affirm their baptism during worship, marking the transition to adulthood in the church. The promises made by parents and guardians at baptism are affirmed by youth themselves, as they recognize what God has done for them in baptism and answer the following question:

DO YOU INTEND TO CONTINUE IN THE COVENANT GOD MADE WITH YOU IN HOLY BAPTISM…

to live among God’s faithful people,
to hear the word of God and share in the Lord’s supper,
to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed,
to serve all people, following the example of Jesus,

to strive for justice and peace in all the earth?
