Confirmation
Confirmation
6th-8th grade

Confirmation at St. Martin’s is an opportunity for youth to learn more about the Bible, the life and ministry of Jesus, and Lutheran heritage. But primarily, it is a time for deeper exploration of what God has done for them in baptism.

They’ll participate in Sunday school, serve as acolytes during worship, attend camp at Lutheran Camp Chrysalis during the summer, and write Sermon Notes during worship. They also choose a Confirmation Verse and compose a Faith Statement at the end of their 8th grade year before Affirmation of Baptism on Pentecost Sunday.

Check out the Confirmation Program Packet for more information about participation.

Sunday school operates on a three year cycle so that each student learns about the Old Testament, New Testament, and Lutheran History. We teach from the Colaborate Lutheran Confirmation curriculum from Sparkhouse, but use it primarily as a guide for discussion and questions. Our primary focus is always addressing the issues that face these young teens, and the questions they have about God, faith, and life.

Our leaders are Christine Fuhrman and Jason Boulette. We meet in room 148 downstairs.

Acolyting is a chance for youthsters to begin to serve the congregation during worship. They light candles, help with the offering and communion, and even assist during special occasions like baptisms. Check out these how-to pages for more info:

Confirmation camp at Lutheran Camp Chrysalis in Kerrville is a longstanding tradition at St. Martin’s. Every summer, our middle schoolers spend five days in the great outdoors and in fellowship with others. They canoe, swim, fish, hike, play tons of Gaga Ball and can even tackle the rock wall! It’s a total blast. Click the icon to check it out.

Sermon notes are a way of keeping youth engaged in the message during worship. It’s important that they start to listen to the sermon and recognize that the Gospel has relevance not only in Sunday school and worship, but in their lives too. Sermon notes are handed in to Laney and returned at the end of the youthster’s 8th grade year as reference for them when they write their Faith Statements. Sermon Note sheets can be found at the Welcome Center in the narthex, in the Sunday school room, or printed from the pdf linked below.
